Jeremiah 26:1-15
The Lord spoke his word when Judah’s King Jehoiakim {ja-HOY-ah-kim}, son of Josiah {jo-SIGH-ah}, began to rule. He said, “This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple, and speak to all the people who come from the cities of Judah to worship in the Lord’s temple. Tell them everything that I command you to tell them. Do not leave out a single word. Maybe they will listen and they will turn from their evil ways. Then I will change my plan about the disaster I intend to bring on them because of the evil they have done.”
The Lord added, “Also say to them, ‘This is what the Lord says: Suppose you do not listen to me and do not follow my teachings that I set in front of you. Suppose you do not listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I sent to you again and again, even though you did not listen. Then I will do to this temple what I did to Shiloh. I will turn this city into something that will be cursed by all the nations on earth.’”
The priests, the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these things in the Lord’s temple, but as soon as Jeremiah finished saying everything that the Lord had commanded him to say, the priests, the prophets, and all the people grabbed him and said, “You must die! Why do you prophesy in the Lord’s name that this temple will be like Shiloh and this city will become a pile of rubble with no one living here?” Then all the people crowded around Jeremiah in the Lord’s temple.
When the officials of Judah heard about these things they went from the king’s palace to the Lord’s temple. They sat at the entrance of New Gate to the Lord’s temple. Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man is deserves to die because he prophesied against this city as you yourselves have heard.”
Then Jeremiah said to all the officials and all the people, “The Lord sent me to prophesy everything that you have heard me say against this temple and against this city. Now, change your ways and what you are doing, and listen to the Lord your God. Then the Lord will change his plan about the disaster that he intends to bring on you.
“As for me my life is in your hands. Do with me whatever you think is good and right, but know for certain that if you put me to death, you, this city, and the people living in it will be guilty of killing an innocent person. The Lord has certainly sent me to speak all these things to you.”
Philippians 3:17-4:1
Brothers and sisters, imitate me, and pay attention to those who live by the example we have given you. I have often told you, and now tell you with tears in my eyes, that many live as the enemies of the cross of Christ. In the end they will be destroyed. Their own emotions are their god, and they take pride in the shameful things they do. Their minds are set on worldly things.
We however, are citizens of heaven. We look forward to the Lord Jesus Christ coming from heaven as our Savior. Through the power to bring everything under his authority, he will change our humble bodies and make them like his glorified body. So, brothers and sisters, I love you and miss you. You are my joy and my crown. Dear friends, keep your relationship with the Lord firm!
Luke 13:31-35
Some Pharisees told Jesus, “Get out of here and go somewhere else! Herod wants to kill you.”
Jesus said to them, “Tell that fox that I will force demons out of people and heal people today and tomorrow. I will finish my work on the third day. In any case I must be on my way today, tomorrow, and the next day. It is not possible for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you kill the prophets and stone to death those sent to you! How often I wanted to gather your children together the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Your house is abandoned. I can guarantee that you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
